Background

Located in Indianapolis, Perennial Pictures was an animation studio founded by G. Brian Reynolds and Russ Harris in 1979 originally animating commercials for various companies as well as doing a series of interstitials entitled Scuddle Mutt as one of their very first original series. In 1984, they released their very first animated special and first installment to the Mirthworms trilogy of specials entitled A Mirthworm Christmas. The studio is then known for their specials as well as Crawford the Cat. In addition, the studio has also made pilots for purposed series, including Aliens Next Door, Handycat, which is the studio's first foray into Flash animation, and O.Ratz with Dave D. Fly.

1st Logo (December 14, 1984-1994)

Visuals: On a black background, four stylized P's come together from all four sides of the screen, twirling counter clockwise. When they come together, they zoom out and up while the words "Perennial Pictures Film Corporation" (in a yellow Souvenir font) zoom out from the bottom of the screen. When the words finish zooming out, a bright blue flash brings forth a blue TV tube like shape around the four P's, which are now colored white.

Technique: Simple 2D/computer animation.

Audio: A seven note jingle with the last note held and more triumphant.

Availability: Can be seen on Mirthworms on Stage and Aliens' First Christmas. An in-credit version was spotted on Mercer Mayer's "Just Like My Dad".

2nd Logo (December 1994-)

Visuals: An in-credit notice that says "Produced Entirely in the U.S.A. by Perennial Pictures Film Corporation", with "Perennial Pictures FIlm Corporation" being their current logo with a blue "Perennial Pictures" script with circles dotting the "I"s and "FILM CORPORATION" in Copperplate Gothic being placed above. Copyright information can sometimes seen below.

Variants:

  • On Crawford's Corner, the logo is placed on the title card of the preceding cartoon.
  • Since the 2000's, the logo has been animated. On a white background, "Perennial Pictures" writes in. As it writes, the circles later come in to dot the I's. After it finishes writing, "FILM CORPORATION" settles below the script. Copyright information fades in.

Technique: None. 2D animation in the animated version.

Audio: Depends on the special.

Availability: Seen on many of their specials including Witches in Stitches, Jolly Ol' St. Nicholas and Deck the Halls as well as the studio's only feature film The Ugly Duckling's Christmas Wish as an opening logo. It can also be seen on title cards on Crawford's Corner. The animated version was seen on Fat Tuezday and current productions from the studio, including their most recent special, Crawford the Cat's Christmas. This did not appear in the O.Ratz with Dave D. Fly and Handycat pilot shorts, however, as the Hanna-Barbera and Frederator logos take its place instead, despite the company producing said pilots.
