Background

Pearl River Film Company was a Chinese film production company from the late 1950s to 2000. It was originally founded as Zhujiang Film Company in 1956, before being renamed into Pearl River Film Studio in 1958. Until the 1970s, Pearl River produced its historical and war films, but in the 1990s, it started to make comedic/drama films. In 1978, the Pearl River Film Studio name was reinstated, but it was renamed into Pearl River Film Company. In the early 2000s, Pearl River Film Company closed, and has been folded into the Pearl River Film Group.
