Background

Pearl River Film Company was a Chinese film production company from the late 1950's to 2000. It was originally founded as Zhujiang Film Company in 1956, and then it was renamed into Pearl River Film Studio in 1958. Before the 1970's, Pearl River produced its historical and war films, but in the 1990's, it started to make comedic/drama films. In 1978, Pearl River Film Studio brought its old name back, but it was renamed into Pearl River Film Company. In the early 2000's, Pearl River Film Company was closed, and has been folded into the new company, the Pearl River Film Group.
