Background

This is the production company of Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. Its origins go back to 1991 when Parkes and MacDonald got its own production company Aerial Pictures, which is first set up at Columbia Pictures. In 1993, it was moved to 20th Century Fox. Later that year, it was moved and merged into Amblin Entertainment, and later at DreamWorks Pictures, in order that Parkes will fill the seat left by the departure of Kathleen Kennedy.

In 2005, he revived the idea of being its own production company, which is called "Parkes + MacDonald Productions" (aka P+M), which is set up at DreamWorks Pictures.

In 2012, the duo stuck a deal with Imagenation Abu Dhabi (now Image Nation) to form a joint venture organization. Since then, P+M has collaborated on the production costs of a number of films that Amblin and Image Nation have produced, including the Men in Black film series from the third film onwards.

Parkes+MacDonald Image Nation

(January 30, 2009-)

Logo: We see the white papers flying around then more papers appear to reveal a black background with the letters "P" and "M" appeared with some papers flying though it. Then the two letters connected together that reassembled a chair with some papers flying around it and the paper swipes out to reveal the words "P+M" with either "PRODUCTIONS or "IMAGE NATION" added to the left. Then it shines and the symbol "+" and the letter "N" turns blue with some papers continued flying until it stopped moving immediately.

Variants:

  • There is a print version where it uses the full name "PARKES+MACDONALD PRODUCTIONS" or "PARKES+MACDONALD IMAGE NATION".
  • On the short-lived series Crossbones the logo is shortened where the papers stopped moving.
  • A still version appears at the end of Dinner for Schmucks and the American adaptation of The Slap.
  • On Free Solo a speed up version is used with the full name "PARKES+MACDONALD" with it and the word "IMAGE NATION" is seen below.

FX/SFX: Papers flying and the connection of the letters.

Music/Sounds: None or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: It was first seen on The Uninvited and started to appear on other films like Dinner for Schmucks, Men in Black 3, Flight and Men in Black: International. The version with the full name appeared on the documentary film Free Solo. Don't expect this to appear on Keeping Up with the Joneses, Rings and The Circle.
