The beginnings of the '''Palestinian Cinema Institution''' was when the Fatah movement founded the Palestine Film Unit, helped by Palestinian filmmakers such as Hani Jawhariyyeh, Salafa Mersal, and Mustafa Abu Ali. The unit would later from the Palestinian Film Group, later known as Palestine Films-the Palestinian Cinema Institution, a part of the PLO. The institution produced many documentary films throughout the 70s. In 1982, its archive in Beirut was looted, and although some of their films survive, most are considered lost. |

Background
The beginnings of the Palestinian Cinema Institution was when the Fatah movement founded the Palestine Film Unit, helped by Palestinian filmmakers such as Hani Jawhariyyeh, Salafa Mersal, and Mustafa Abu Ali. The unit would later from the Palestinian Film Group, later known as Palestine Films-the Palestinian Cinema Institution, a part of the PLO. The institution produced many documentary films throughout the 70s. In 1982, its archive in Beirut was looted, and although some of their films survive, most are considered lost.
