Background

OTL Releasing is a sublabel of Universal Pictures which is generally focused on distributing micro-budget genre films. Most of their titles are co-produced with BH Tilt, which is a successor to a similar label entitled High Top Releasing, a former FilmDistrict subsidiary.

(2017-)

Nickname: "The OTL Static"

Logo: On a black background, some VHS-esque static appears and flashes numerous times. Slowly, packs of lines form the waving text "O T L", which then glows as if a light was shining down on it multiple times. The text "R E L E A S I N G" fades in underneath, and the logo then distorts before cutting to black.

Variants:

  • On Lowriders and Birth of the Dragon, the logo is still.
  • On Unfriended: Dark Web, the VHS effects are replaced with constant glitching.

FX/SFX: The static and waving.

Music/Sounds: Some static-sounding sounds which play over the film's opening theme, or otherwise just the opening sounds of the movie.

Availability: Currently seen on films such as Lowriders and Upgrade.

Editor's Note: TBA.
