Background

Novosti (Новости) is the secondary news broadcast of Channel One in Russia, airing since February 10, 1985. The program is usually an overview of events that occurred in the past day of broadcast.

1st Intro (April 1, 1995-July 31, 1996)

Visuals: Same as the former 1994 ITA Novosti intro.

Later Variant: Starting on March 11, 1996, the animation for the ITA logo has been removed. Also, when a large line (which is now more darker) appears at the top of the text, the animation of a blue silk background loops (it actually plays normally and in reverse over and over again) for a second before it freeze-frames.

Technique: CGI by Render Club.

Audio: Same as the 1994 ITA Novosti intro.

2nd Intro (August 1-December 31, 1996)

Visuals: On top of footage of a news studio, multiple copies of the ORT 1 logo appear moving around the screen as these reflect multiple imagery of studio footage, city footage and other activities. These then move out from the screen as the background changes to other footage, including a person adjusting knobs, an official signing a document, a person twisting knobs on a TV mixer, people walking on a street, and a person using a reel system. The light purple text "НОВОСТИ" wipes in from left to right with a large glow in front of it, and the text "ОБЩЕСТВЕННОЕ РОССИЙСКОЕ ТЕЛЕВИДЕНИЕ" appears glowing in below. The background finally changes to a blurry shot of a TV mixer, mostly in a light blue color with other reflections shown.

Technique: 2D CGI with live-action footages, done by Igor Barbe.

Audio: A generic news fanfare composed by Sergey Chekryzhov.

3rd Intro (January 1, 1997-September 26, 1999)

Visuals: The sequence starts on a fiery orange background. A flash then occurs, as the background changes to a blue background where multiple overlaid footage is shown. Two O's are shown moving from the sides and meeting at the center, while the background wipes to orange. A trail comes out of the merged "О" while copies of the word "ОБЩЕСТВЕННОЕ" appear vertically in white. The background shows footage of the news crew speaking to the camera. After a while, the background wipes to blue again as construction workers are shown at the left, and landmarks, as well as people marching are shown at the right. Meanwhile, the same letter sequence happens to the "Р" letter of "OPT", as copies of "РОССИЙСКОЕ" appear at the right. News crew speaking are shown at the left. The background then wipes to dark blue, as footage of an astronaut crew is shown, while the letter sequence happens to the "T", with copies of "ТЕЛЕВИДЕНИЕ" appearing briefly at the right. Footage of people marching is shown at the left. The background then wipes to another dark blue background with a globe spinning, where the text "НОВОСТИ" appears zooming out. Glass streaks move out as the colors of "НОВОСТИ" are revealed, and the border of the text, in gold, zooms out. A flash occurs at the center of the screen, and the "OPT" letters are faintly shown spinning in the background. The text "ОБЩЕСТВЕННОЕ РОССИЙСКОЕ ТЕЛЕВИДЕНИЕ", in white, appears scrolling at a low framerate below "НОВОСТИ". The intro then wipes out to the headlines section of the show.

Technique: CGI with live-action footages, also done by Igor Barbe.

Audio: A dramatic synth orchestra fanfare, which was also composed by Sergey Chekryzhov.

Audio Variant: Up until mid-late 1997, the intro had a different dramatic synth orchestra fanfare.

4th Intro (September 27, 1999-October 7, 2001)

Visuals: The sequence starts on a blue background with scanlines, with footage of a rocket launch at the bottom-left. A bright orange beam of light is shown at the center, while a holographic blue clock appears zooming in from the right. The background footage changes to a crowd, and then it quickly zooms out as other footage of the same crowd is shown on multiple screens. It quickly changes to military footage, as the same footage is reflected on a holographic screen rotating near the center, and it quickly zooms in as a light corridor in light blue and yellow quickly moves and rotates, as other light blue lights are shown moving and flashing across the screen. The light corridor gets less brighter as a blue iris grows around the corridor. The lights then fade out, and the word "НОВОСТИ" appears rotating with other multiple rays of light around it, along with a few transparent copies. Lights remain flashing around the screen.

Technique: CGI by The Brand.

Audio: Same as before.

5th Intro (October 8, 2001-September 7, 2003)

Visuals: There is a light/dark blue background with multiple segments of footage appearing on-screen, first being the Ostankino Tower, and then moving around as shots of the military, people walking, assembly of a plane and the news crew are shown. The background then changes to a digital environment with multiple moving 3D lines; on two of the walls, monochrome footage of an interview, and color footage of a news studio are shown. The environment then turns around, as it changes to a darker blue background with segmented orange lines near the bottom, with the text "НОВОСТИ" revealed near the top of the center. Footage of a blue cloudy sky is revealed on a transforming rectangle which turns diagonal and places itself below the text, with multiple shapes and lines shown around the logo. Most of the orange shapes have disappeared.

Early Variant: Up until the Spring of 2002, some of the footages like the Ostankino Tower, the military, people walking and a monochrome footage of an interview were absent.

Technique: CGI with live-action footages.

Audio: A dramatic 16-note piano and synthesizer theme with light orchestral elements, along with a few whooshing sounds. This was composed by Oleg Litvishko.

6th Intro (September 8, 2003-August 29, 2004)

Visuals: A night sky appears as the camera turns and multiple rectangles containing videos of different changing shot from the previous intro are revealed. The camera then moves around as the environment turns into a mostly white background with multiple moving lines and rectangles showing other footage, along with a diagram. A red wall containing a globe rotating on a red environment is shown, and then it turns around as it is revealed to be on multiple trailing rectangles, similar to the beginning section. The rectangles turn around as the background is divided into a blue cloudy sky with rounded lines, a mostly cloudy sky and a white color. Multiple red and white lines are shown growing from the sides, and above the center, a white line appears behind a red square as both quickly extend into rectangles with the text "НОВОСТИ" appearing.

Technique: CGI with live-action footages.

Audio: Same as before.

7th Intro (August 30, 2004-March 2, 2008)

Visuals: The sequence starts on a mostly blue/red gradient background with footage of a cloudy sky overlaid on it, as well as two square shapes shown on the upper-left and bottom-right corners. The background then zooms out to a fast pace as it completely turns into the gradient. A white globe is shown zooming in with multiple lines spinning around it. The screen cuts to close-ups of the globe, where a photo of the Earth (focused on the Middle East region) appears in the front of it along with graticule lines. The screen then fades to the same globe spinning with multiple lines and curves rotating around it, including transparent ones. The transparent lines turn into a different animation of a wired globe which zooms into the screen and reveals the blue/red gradient background, with the map details shown around the globe. The globe then zooms out as a white border grows at the center of the screen. The globe turns into four different styles and colors that are segmented by sides. The upper-left starts with the wired-looking globe and turns into a standard one with a purple-ish blue color, the upper-right has a light blue color with two globes overlaid, the bottom-right has a crimson red color with the other portion of the globe overlay from the upper-right side shown, along with a different, more detailed globe near the upper-left corners of it; and the bottom-left has an orange color with two different overlaid wired globes shown. A purple-ish blue curve appears rising in at the right side of the upper-left segment, while the text "НОВОСТИ" slides in at the upper-right segment, next to the curve.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A re-orchestrated version of the 2001 theme, also composed by Oleg Litvishko.

8th Intro (March 3, 2008-Febuary 19, 2018)

Visuals: The sequence starts with zooming shots of a lightened Earth globe in orange surrounded by multiple orange-red stripes moving around it on a dark blue light background, with thin, curved grid-like lines reflected around the environment. The screen then fades to the segmented globe shown on the previous logo, but at an enhanced quality, and the bottom-left has a more yellow-ish color. The curve appears rising in from the upper-left sections of the segments while the "НОВОСТИ" text slides in, just like the previous intro. Being the first intro of the program to be in 16:9 ratio, the sides of the globe animation have been mirrored to fit the sequence within the widescreen format.

Early Variant: Up until June 1, 2011 when Channel One started broadcasting in widescreen, the intro remained in 4:3 ratio; and because of this, the mirrored sides of the globe animation were absent.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as before.

9th Intro (Febuary 20, 2018-)

Visuals: The sequence starts with a zooming shot of a rotating transparent white globe with red landmasses on a light blue radial gradient background with blue moving stripes, inside which are navy blue landmasses, and light blue thin, curved grid-like lines around the environment (similar to the previous intro); there are also dark blue lines (both curved and linear) surrounding a globe. A dark red stripe (inside which are also red landmasses, and it has a white shadow) flies around the screen, causing it to transition into a shot where a globe consisting of golden-red stripes making landmasses is seen on the right side of the screen on the same background; the stripes in the background are also brighter. The orange-red stripes are flying around a globe before the screen wipes to the set with a dark red thick line, inside which is the word "НОВОСТИ", sliding in from the left side of the screen, which is displayed on the back wall of the news studio.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as before, but the theme would carry on after the transition to the set.
