Background

New Visions Pictures was a joint venture between filmmaker Taylor Hackford's production company New Visions Entertainment and Cineplex Odeon Films, after the former company merged with New Century Entertainment.

1st Logo (placeholder logo) (1989)

Visuals: On a black background, a deep orange shape with a sharp top is wiped in top to bottom. A deep orange "V" is then wiped in, this time bottom to top. "N E W V I S I O N S P I C T U R E S" then slides in from the newly formed "N", with the name in two layers.

Technique: 2D digital animation.

Audio: The opening theme of the trailer.

Availability: This was most likely a placeholder logo. Can be found only on the trailer for Rooftops.

2nd Logo (March 17, 1989-August 23, 1991)

Visuals: The camera fades in to a waving red cloth. It then fades to a shot with a white stripe, followed by a shot with a yellow stripe as well as the same white from the previous shot. It then briefly fades to another shot of the white section before fading to a cloudy sunrise with the cloth in the center. It then fully reveals that it is a flag with the logo from before, but thicker, and the sharp stripe in yellow and the "V" in white. The flag then flows in the wind as "NEW VISIONS PICTURES", this time thicker and having a drop shadow, fade in above the logo respectively and the sun brightens up the background.

Variants:

  • At the end of Mortal Thoughts, it's just the finished product. Additionally, "ENTERTAINMENT" replaces "PICTURES".
  • On Sweet Talker, the logo is more zoomed out than usual, revealing mountains below the logo.

Technique: Live-action.

Audio: An orchestral theme that gets more proud when the logo is fully revealed. Composed by James Newton Howard.

Availability: Can be found on Queens Logic, Rooftops, The Long Walk Home, Mortal Thoughts, Sweet Talker, and Defenseless.
