'''Editor's Note:''' While the sound of the bottle breaking can be startling for some people (especially the version without music where it breaks with no warning, which could be jarring to many people), some people may find this logo funny, and it may be favored for fans of the shows ''Smallville'', the short-lived show ''The Strip'' and the 2011 version of ''Charlie's Angels''.

Probably debuted in 1997, if it's true or not.

Background

Millar Gough Ink (also known as Millar/Gough Ink) is the television and film production company of Miles Millar and Alfred Gough. It was founded in 1997, but they didn't start using the logo until they used it in 1999.

1st Logo (1997; October 12, 1999, November 10, 2011? 15?)

Nicknames: "Orange-Red Ink", "Ink Bottle Gets the Banhammer", "(silent) SPLAT!!"

Logo: In an office setting, at the forefront, The screen focuses on a ink bottle that it was filled with orange red ink. They labeled:

MILLAR
GOUGH
INK

in an Impact font, with the bottom half of "INK" colored silver. After a while, a hammer (which, if you look very closely, can be seen in the reflection on the bottle) falls down on top of it and smashes it that causes it to fly everywhere, covering up the screen. And it abruptly cuts to the next or splitscreen logo.

Variant: On UPN airings and other airings of the short-lived show The Strip, 2003 DVD releases and Channel 4 and The WB and E4 airings of season 1 and 4:3 prints of all episodes of Smallville, the logo is shown in fullscreen. On some other prints of season 1 of Smallville, the logo is shortened. On UPN airings of the short-lived show The Strip, the logo is silent.

Cheesy Factor:

  • How could there be so much ink in that one, tiny bottle? Also, the transition to the next or splitscreen logo is really poorly done.

FX/SFX: The hammer smashing the ink bottle, the ink spreading. It's all live-action. An live-action logo was animated by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Music/Sounds:

  • 2001-2002: Originally, it has the sound of the bottle breaking. The closing theme of the show may also be played before the bottle breaking sound.
  • Early 2002: An odd, short piano tune with an eerie sound effect is played in the background before the bottle breaking sound.
  • 2002-2011: A reverberating cartoon ditty is played in the background before the bottle breaking sound.
  • 1999: On the short-lived show The Strip, there is a different splattering sound, but without the bottle breaking sound.
  • 2001-2002 Variant: High. On the Smallville season 1 episodes "X-Ray" and "Hug", the logo is silent.
  • On most prints of other season 1 episodes of Smallville, the ending theme of the show was played before the bottle breaking sound appears.
  • On early season 2 episodes of Smallville, the reverberating cartoon ditty is somewhat slightly quieter before the bottle breaking sound appears.

Availability: First seen on the short-lived show The Strip. Also seen on Smallville and the 2011 version of Charlie's Angels. Don't expect this on the company's films and some shows, though.

Availability Variant:

  • It was possibly featured in Wikipedia as the Hannah Montana: The Movie page.

Unused Logo From Movies:

  • On the comedy film Hannah Montana: The Movie, the logo is unused. Don't expect this on the company's films.

Editor's Note: While the sound of the bottle breaking can be startling for some people (especially the version without music where it breaks with no warning, which could be jarring to many people), some people may find this logo funny, and it may be favored for fans of the shows Smallville, the short-lived show The Strip and the 2011 version of Charlie's Angels.

2nd Logo (November 15, 2015-May 6, 2019)

Logo: On a black background, we see the stacked words "MILLAR GOUGH". To the right of it is a red beaker with a big black drop of ink in it, and inside the drop is the word "INK".

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None, or the end theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on Into the Badlands and The Shannara Chronicles.

Editor's Note: None.
