Background

Kideo Video was formed as a joint venture of Karl-Lorimar Home Video, DiC Animation City and LBS Communications to distribute kids and animated videos. This was a second in a line of Lorimar sublabels, following Scholastic-Lorimar Home Video. DiC would later launch its home video label in 1986 with Golden Book Video.

1st Logo (prototype logo) (1985-1986)

Visuals: Over a white background is blue and yellow stripes. Over the side was the words "Kideo Video" in a cursive font, and we see what looks like splotches of confetti shown underneath the stripes.

Technique: Fade animation.

Audio: None.

Availability:

  • This is a prototype logo, as it appears on earlier video releases of M.A.S.K..
  • It also appears on the 1986 UK VHS release of GoBots from The Video Collection.

2nd Logo (1986-1988?)


Visuals: On a white-pink gradient background, eight stripes, colored blue and yellow, come in from both the left and right. "Kideo" then writes itself out in a red cursive font, then "Video" in the same font and color, zooms in as what looks like splotches of confetti pop up.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on kids releases of Karl-Lorimar tapes, such as M.A.S.K., The Care Bears, and Inspector Gadget.
