Background

Hong Hwa International Films was an Taiwanese film studio founded by Taiwanese director Joseph Kuo Nam Hung. While registered in Hong Kong, Hong Hwa mainly operated in Taiwan. From 1970 to 1983, the studio released mostly Kung Fu and Wu Xia films.

1st Logo (1970-1975)

Logo: On a marble background, we see a golden square with HH (like two H's holding each other) with white Chinese text below the square HH and above the text "HONG HWA MOTION PICTURE (H.K) CO. in orange-yellow.

FX/SFX: None, it's a still logo.

Music/Sounds:

Availability: Very rare. Can be only seen on the current home video releases of that period's films.

2nd Logo (1976?-197?)

Nickname: "Globe with H"

Logo: On a cerulean background, two red "H"s fly in from left and right sides of the screen, merging into one in the middle, then a live-action rotating globe appears over it, along with the company name "HONG HWA INTERNATIONAL FILMS (H.K.) LTD."and traditional Chinese text. Seconds later, the screen fades to another screen, this time showing "HOHWA(where the H should be)SCOPE"and another set of Chinese text. The logo fades out in the end to the film.

FX/SFX: The "H"s flying and merging, the globe and the text.

Music/Sounds: An orchestral fanfare, followed by a big note into the end, either orchestrated or synthesized

Availability: See the first logo.

3rd Logo (19??-19??)

Nicknames: "Double H", "Red Double H"

Logo: On a red background, we see a red and white angular double H shape ("HH") fading-in, and then cuts to bigger. Then white Chinese text (similar to the China Films Co. logo characters) wipes in from the right by one by one and more chinese text fades in below the text. The english translations doesn't appear.

FX/SFX: The blurring, the wiping, the fading-in. This is the only logo of Hong Hwa that does not have the English translations, and the characters are ripped off from another logo.

Music/Sounds: Same as before.

Availability: Can be only seen on the current home video releases of that period's films.

4th Logo (19??-19??)

Logo: On a dark background, a small angular double H shape ("HH") from before, but colored,is seen in the background, and zoomed in forward. As it stops, 3 flashes on the top corners, from center, right, to left, are initiated. The white text "HONG HWA INTERNATIONAL FILMS (H.K.) LTD." appears by a horizontal swipe starting from the left towards the right, and then a rendition of the company's name in red Chinese characters appears in another swipe, done character by character, and starting from the right this time.

FX/SFX: The 3 flashes.

Music/Sounds: Same as the previous logo.

Availability: Can be only seen on the current home video releases of that period's films.

5th Logo (1992)

Logo: A print version of the double H shape from before, superimposed over the opening scene. "HONG HWA FILMS" is seen below the double H shape.
