Background

Goldhil Home Media Entertainment (or Goldhil Video) was a video distributor founded in 1991 and was based in Thousand Oaks, California. They distributed various educational and other media to home video until 2008 when they were absorbed into Cerebellum Corporation.

1st Logo (1991-2003)

Visuals: On a black background, streaks of lime form just above the center of the screen and grow into a shiny semicircle of the same color, with a orange metal arc growing out of it. The words "GOLDHIL VIDEO" in a gold Friz Quadrata font flips in below.

Variant: Sometimes, a URL of the company's website will appear underneath the logo in a white Helvetica font.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An brief synthesized choir riff with a high-pitched synth stinger at the end.

Availability: It can be found on Goldhil Video VHS releases such as tapes of The Big Comfy Couch.

2nd Logo (1999?-2003)

Visuals: On a white background, "GOLDHIL DVD" swings into place like a pair of barn doors closing, and the URL appears in a black serif font above it. The arc, though dulled in color and rather blurry, wipes in a clock-esque fashion, and then shines brightly from left to right, with bird silhouettes flying out of the text as it does.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: It starts with a rising note, and a clang is heard when the text comes together, a soft whoosh when the semicircle forms, then a 6 note theme that repeats and then the sounds of birds squawking and flapping their wings when they fly out of the logo.

Availability: So far, its only known to appear on DVD releases of PBS's America's Historic Steam Railroads under the name Great Trains of America.

3rd Logo (2003-2008)

Visuals: Fading from black, it shows a orange-tinted picture of Yosemite National Park, specifically of Glacier Point, slowly zooming in as a ball of light rises out from just above Liberty Cap, supposed to be resembling a morning sunrise. The picture slowly fades out as a orange-tinted version of the Goldhil Media logo zooms out, which slowly fades to a shiny green for the semicircle, and yellow for the arc, all while an orange glow can be seen around it. The surrounding background also fades to black. As soon as the logo comes into full view and the background changes to black, the white text "GOLDHIL DVD" appears and focuses into view, with 2 lights shooting off in opposite directions of each other in-between the text.

Variant: Some DVDs replace "DVD" with "VIDEO".

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A dramatic horn fanfare that ends with a choir.

Availability: Can be found on later releases from Goldhil on DVD, like Lilias! AM & PM Yoga Workouts for Seniors, Just the Facts - Understand the Government: The Judicial Branch, and many other educational and workout material.
