Background

Golden Princess Film Production was a Hong Kong production company and film distributor set up by Golden Princess Amusement Co. Ltd. It produced several acclaimed films including The Killer, Peking Opera Blues, and Full Contact. With the decline of Hong Kong film market in mid-1990s, Golden Princess eventually withdrew from the cinema operation, film distribution and production businesses. Its last film was Peace Hotel in 1995, also the last Hong Kong film starring Chow Yun Fat before his moving to Hollywood. Its films were acquired by Star TV who placed their films into its Fortune Star division.

1st Logo (1988-1990?)

Logo: On an orange background, we see a GP design, which consists of a mirrored P design with the left side having a G and a triangle cutout on the top and we zoom out from it, revealing more GP designs. Then, a giant, golden GP flips and zooms out to its position. Finally, "GOLDEN PRINCESS FILM PRODUCTION LIMITED", in Cantonese and English appears (via the flash).

FX/SFX: The zoom-outs, and the flash.

Music/Sounds: A triumphant fanfare, excerpted from the main title theme of the 1980 film The Final Countdown (composed by John Scott).

Availability: Extremely rare. So far, this only seen on the trailer of Roboforce (AKA I Love Maria).

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (1990?-1995)

Logo: On a gold liquid wall, a mirrored "GP" structure rises from the background and zooms forward . The flying structure leaves a trail and then zooms backwards while we see blue filmstrip floors slide upwards. Then the filmstrip background stops, and the "GP" zooms upwards along with the words "GOLDEN PRINCESS FILM PRODUCTION LIMITED" in Cantonese and English.

FX/SFX: The liquid background wavering, the structure hovering and zooming, the moving filmstrip floors, and the zooming text.

Music/Sounds: A majestic synth fanfare ending with a dramatic (and quite unfitting) two-note sting.

Music/Sounds Variants:

Availability: Uncommon. Seen on more popular HK action titles such as the critically acclaimed HK classics The Killer and Hard Boiled. This can also be seen on Once A Thief, Treasure Hunt, Full Contact, A Chinese Ghost Story II and III, along with The Swordsman I, II, and III, and several other films. The last film to feature this logo was Peace Hotel, Golden Princess's final film. This is sometimes removed or plastered over with the Media Asia logos, but is usually preceded with other companies' idents on their prints.
