Background

Pierrot Co., Ltd. (株式会社ぴえろ), is a Japanese animation studio established in May 1979 by Yuji Nunokawa, previously an animator and director for Tatsunoko Production. Its headquarters are located in Mitaka, Tokyo. Some of Pierrot's most popular shows include Urusei Yatsura, Creamy Mami, Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, Bleach, and Tokyo Ghoul.

The studio was named after the famous French clown Pierrot. Nunokawa chose the name in honor of a circus troupe he saw as a child.
