Background

SK Telecom Co., Ltd., abbreviated as SKT (Korean: SK텔레콤 or 에스케이텔레콤) is a South Korean wireless telecommunications operator and former film distributor and is part of the SK Group, one of the country's largest chaebols. It leads the local market with 50.5% share as of 2008. SK Telecom is the largest wireless carrier in South Korea, with 27.019 million subscribers as of Q4 2017.

1st Screen (2005-2007)

Visuals:

  • Startup: We briefly see a red-tinted cloudy sky with multiple 2D butterflies in red/orange flying in from the bottom-left. One of these butterflies moves close to the screen, revealing the text "SK telecom" on a white/red vignette background. The butterfly then flies into the top-right of the "SK" text, and the vignette clears.
  • Shutdown: We start with the end result from before. The butterfly flies out and moves close to the screen, changing the screen to red with the same logo appearing in white.

Technique: Animated sequence stored in the phone's ROM.

Audio:

  • Startup: A soothing harp theme.
  • Shutdown: A rearrangement of the harp theme.

Visuals:

  • Startup: On a white background, we see two red and orange ribbons appear moving from the left, forming a left-facing "T" at the center.
  • Shutdown: We start with the "T" from before. Both ribbons then fly away into the top corners, leaving the white background.

Technique: Animated sequence stored in the phone's ROM.

Audio:

  • Startup: A chime synth at the beginning, then a whoosh, leading into a happy 5-note bell theme.
  • Shutdown: A quiet bell playing part of the theme of before, followed by a beeping synth playing the full 5-note theme, along with a whoosh.
