Background

Novemberfilm AS is a norwegian film and tv company that produces tv series, advertising and documentary films for stations in and outside Norway.

The company was founded by Kjetil Johnsen and Tomm W. Christiansen in 2004, and has offices in Oslo and Arendal. In 2013, MTG bought 51% of the shares in the company, before in 2016 it also took over the remaining shares and eventually transferred the company to NENT as part of a larger transaction. Today, Novemberfilm is part of the international production group Fremantle. Sister companies in Norway include Monster, Strix, Rakett, Playroom and One Big Happy Family. Its biggest international production was the documentary Taliban – behind the masks, which was bought by 14 countries and broadcast on CNN, among others. In 2011, the film received the award for best television documentary at the National Headliner Awards. In the same year, Novemberfilm received the award for best film at the International Oil Spill Conference in the USA for a documentary produced for the Coastal Administration about the Full City grounding at Langesund in 2009.

Novemberfilm is behind a number of documentary series and has won the Gullruten several times. Among the productions are Toll, Norway Behind the Facade, Mysteriet Marianne, Oslo Burns and The Zookeepers on TV 2, In the King's Clothing, Sibling, The Abducted Children, Crime Watch and Kripos on NRK, and the investigative format Insider which is broadcast on TV -channel MAX and Discovery+, and which premiered on january, 17th 2012. In 2019, Novemberfilm developed and produced the first season of Norway: Behind The Facade which among other things dealt with non-returnable asylum seekers, Eastern European migrant workers and abused children. The premiere had 400,000 viewers. The program was chaired by Janne Amble and Kadafi Zaman. In the autumn of 2020, the company teamed up with writer and former police officer Jörn Lier Horst, and at the same time launched the documentary series Mystery Marianne on TV2. The series was sold to several countries in Europe in the winter of 2021. In autumn 2021, the company announced that it is working on a documentary about the murder of Tina Jörgensen in Stavanger together with the journalist Hans Petter Aass.

In January of 2020, it became known that Nordic Entertainment Group which among other things also owns Monster, Playroom, Strix, and Rakett, is putting these companies up for sale. At the end of June of 2021, it was announced that the international company Fremantle buyed the studio.
