Background

Czechoslovak Television (or ČST) was the state television broadcaster of Czechoslovakia. Founded on May 1, 1953, it was known by three names over its lifetime: Czech: Československá Televize, Slovak: Československá Televízia (until 1990) and Česko-Slovenská Televízia (from 1990 until 1992).

1st (known) logo (1963-1969)

Logo: On a grey background, we see a white CRT shape (more complete logo description Unknown), and inside it two opposite triangle-ish shapes, one being white and other one being black.

Variant: Unknown

Technique: Unknown.

Music/Sounds: Unknown.

Availability: As of the time this was edited, there's no video footage of this logo online, but only a screenshot from the official ČT (Czech ČST sucessor) website.

2nd (known) logo (1975-1990)

Logo: On a cyan background, a brown circle zooms in before turning yellow. It then splits in half in a wavy form (forming the s) and the halves move slightly apart, also stretching the right side of the circle a bit. A television shape draws itself around it with a curve on the top right corner and 2 different lines sticking out from the top right corner, forming the logo. 6 lines, 2 green, 2 red and 3 blue appear from either side of the logo and zoom towards the front/sides of the screen before fading out and reappearing. After that, the text
ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ

TELEVIZE

in white fade in between the logo.

Variant:

  • Sometimes the logo is still.
  • For closedowns, the animation is played in reverse.
  • Sometimes, "TELEVIZE" is spelled as "TELEVIZIA".

Technique: Cel animation.

Music/Sounds: A cymbal crash, which segues into a triumphant fanfare.

Availability: Extinct on TV.
