Background

ChromeOS is a Linux distribution developed and designed by Google. It is derived from the open-source ChromiumOS, based on the Linux kernel, and uses the Google Chrome web browser as its principal user interface.

1st Bootscreen (2015-2022)

Visuals: On a white background, the Google Chrome icon appears. It slides to the left, spinning once in the process. On the right of it, the gray word "chrome" appears.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A synthesized ding.

Availability: Seen when a pre-2022 Chromebook or Chromebox is turned on or booted up after restarting.

2nd Bootscreen (2022-)

Visuals: The Chrome icon, now colored white, appears on a black background. "chromeOS", in white, is next to the Chrome icon.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: A synthesized ding.

Availability: Seen when a post-2022 Chromebook or Chromebox is turned on or booted up after restarting.
