Background

Channel 3 HD (officially ช่อง 3 เอชดี in Thailand) is a famous Thai television station formed in March 26, 1970. The station is owned by BEC World. It was previously owned alongside MCOT from 1970 until 2020.

1st Logo (1988-1989)

Logo: On a blue gradient background with stars, various scenes from various TV shows are seen. Then we see an orange sky background with clouds. The blue Thai text (คุ้มค่าทุกนาที ดูทีวีสีช่อง 3, see translation below) appears via a sliding effect and then the Channel 3 logo (consisting of a red, green, and blue circle split unevenly at the top and bottom three times) appears via a flipping effect.

Technique: The animations of the video clips zooming in, the background(s), and the logo flipping in. The animation is evidently cheap, but one can tell that at least some effort was put into it.

Music/Sounds: Some cool music with an chorus singing in Thai, "Every minute worth watching, Channel 3!"

Music/Sounds Variant: One airing once had the final chimes from the second Buena Vista International Television logo, making the logo's audio off-sync.

Availability: Extinct.

Legacy: This is a favorite of many Thai people and the slogan (including a modified rendition of the theme) continues to be used to this day.

2nd Logo (1989-1994)

Logo: Continuing after images of Thai stars (with actual multicolored stars surrounding the images), the logo zooms in from the background and cursive/scribbled Thai text appears.

Technique: Cheaper than before.

Music/Sounds: Same as before.

Availability: See above.

3rd Logo (1994-1996)

Logo: A background containing the Bangkok Metropolitan Region (or some other Thai city) skyline is shown. The same "3" logo emblem trails in a circle and stops at the top left of the screen. Thai text from before, in gold, appears, and shines.

Technique: The effects shown in this logo were easily possible ten years prior to when it was made.

Music/Sounds: A different version of the theme from before, having more of a "reggae" feel to it.

Availability: Extinct on TV. See above.

4th Logo (1996-1998)

Logo: We see a blue world map (in the Goode Homolosine style; the countries have a gray glossy effect) on a blue-black gradient background. The letters "B" (in red), "E" (in green), and "C" (in blue) in a rounded, extruded font rotate in. Each letter has a silver "border" attached to it. The "3" logo is on the bottom left, with the slogan of the channel.

Technique: It's hard to tell if CGI was even used to make this; this looks like the result of something from a basic animation platform for Macintosh/Windows.

Music/Sounds: The final modification of the theme from before, still being used today.

Availability: See above.
