Background

This is David Lynch's production company. Lynch also co-ran Lynch/Frost Productions with Mark Frost.

1st Logo (January 8-9, 1993)



Visuals: On a black background with lips is the word "ASYMMETRICAL" stylized in a gray square like this:

The word is presented four letters line-by-line. A strobe light-like flash occurs as the camera zooms in and the letters spark. Then, the lips say "Asymmetrical" and appear to blur out over time.

Technique: Appears to be a combination of live-action footage, practical effects and CGI.

Audio: Loud, thunder-like hissing/sizzling noises and a droning synth trill followed by a robotic voice (made by duplicating the voice and making the vocal duplicate 12 semitones lower) saying "Asymmetrical" (which sounds more like "eggs are metrical"). The stock sound effect of electricity sparking and an eerie choir can be heard in the background too.

Availability: Only seen on the 3-part miniseries Hotel Room, after the Propaganda Films logo.

Legacy: The whole surreal nature makes this one of the most disturbing logos shown on television. Given that this is David Lynch, this was very much intentional.

2nd Logo (February 21, 1997)

Visuals: On a black background is this text:

The word is stylized similar to the previous logo, but every letter is inside an orange square. The squares are at the right side of the screen, and on the left side is the logo of Ciby 2000. Both logos are separated by a bar. Above the logos is "A" and below is "PRODUCTION".

Technique: A still graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen only on Lost Highway.
