Audiovisual Identity Database:Requests for Comment/AVID documentary for the AVID Channel

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

A while back I had an idea of researching the entire history of the Audiovisual Identity Database, all the way back from its roots at the beginning. However, I never got to do it. Thing is, that I always was alone and this felt like a project that probably felt too big for me.

However, I am here to propose something. With the recent times, AVID has got a YouTube channel to post content on, and I believe this idea would be a good one for a few reasons. The first one is that the project can actually be finished. and Second, there could be more accurate information, based on perhaps interviews from older members of the wiki. And third, I think some members could be interested in seeing AVID's past, including me, the proposer.

Last but not least, I have proposed a title for this idea; "From a Group to a Database (The History of AVID)" then the episode name and number. For example, For example: "From a Group to a Database: The History of AVID #1 - (episode name)" would be the title for the first episode.

Anyways, feel free to let me know about your opinions down below.

  1. Support since Jesus returned after 3 days. We need much more content for the channel, and this would be absolutely brilliant.

  2. Support as one of the people who have been discussing this on Discord today. I even mocked up a potential episode breakdown:

  • Episode 1 - “Birth of a community” covers the Yahoo group and early description sites
  • Episode 2: - “A New Home” covers the creation of the original wiki and its formative years
  • Episode 3- “Paintcans and Anvils” covers the transition to WikiFoundry, the resulting changes and the early disputes between CLG leadership and Travis
  • Episode 4: “Cokeburst” Covers Cokeburst and its aftermath
  • Episode 5 - “The Scam” covers SuperMarty-o’s fraud, it’s exposure and how it changed the CLG’s attitudes towards major finds
  • Episode 6- “Exodus” covers the Miraheze move, the events leading to it and increasing tension between the community and the BoD
  • Episode 7 - “Six Hours” covers 9/9 and the aftermath
  • Episode 8- “From the Ashes” covers the rise of AVID from the confusion and uncertainty after 9/9

  1. Support That would make a great start for the YouTube channel, which is in dire need of new content and attention. As someone who has a great interest in history, I have hopes this documentary will take me into the moments that makes this site unique and interesting from the rest (videos about the history of websites aren't exactly my tastes, but with the site going through multiple conflicts over the year, I am excited to hear something old and new about this site's history).  Comment: I have shared my series title idea for the series on the Discord server: "The Vivid and Livid History of AVID." It doesn't require that extra subtitle to ensure that it's "the history of AVID," and it's a much more dramatic title.

For those unaware, it is impossible for history to be 'livid'. History cannot be angry, nor can it be a dark blue-grey. Disagree if you will, but for this reason I prefer VPJ's proposed name.

well... history can't be vivid either, so that puts a hole in your logic NancerAVID (talk) 15:53, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Plus, "From a Group to a Database" is kinda obvious from the get-go (Closing Logos Group to Audiovisual Identity Database). · Talk · Edits 18:34, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
