Background

442oons is the production company of British animator Dean Stobbart, which specializes in creating football cartoons on YouTube. 442oons has partnered with multiple major organizations, such as Sky Sports, the Bundesliga, and Onefootball, among many others.

(July 30, 2013-January 22, 2017)

Logo: On a black background, the text "4-4-2oons" in a rounded font is seen in the top half of the screen, with a goal replacing the "n". As the logo shines, a football drops and bounces off the goal, braking it into a stylized "n". A disclaimer - stating the fictionality of the characters and events in the 442oons cartoons - is seen in the bottom half of the screen.

Variants:

  • An early animated version starts with the first half of the name appearing on a black-green gradient background. A football drops in from the right and when it touches the "2", the upper half of it doubles in a twinkle and moves like arms, while the ball bounces off its lower half, which constanly changes in size as if it actually "kicks" the ball. A goal zooms in to the right, then the animation suddenly slows down, then speeds back to normal as the "2" kicks the ball. The ball hits the goal's left post and breaks it into a stylized "n", then "oo" appears next to the "2", which the ball hits and has its upper half revert back to normal. The ball then rolls off to the right, revealing an "s" next to the goal.
  • Sometimes, the logo is seen with a co-producer's logo next to it. These include FREEbets, Sky Sports and Eurosport, among others.
  • In early 2015, the hyphens were removed from the name.
  • On most cartoons since April 2016, the logo is seen on a football pitch background with a handful of football caricatures in the forefront. These are: the trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar (commonly known as MSN), Mesut Özil (drawn as an E.T.-like alien), Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Thomas Müller.
  • Starting with The Toure Chant in May 2016, the goal in the name is replaced with a regular "n", and the logo simply shines.
  • On some of the cartoons made at the time of Euro 2016, the logo shines with a red-blue hue.

Technique: Simple 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: Either a bonk when the ball hits the goal, a crowd cheering, a whistle blow, or a mix of these.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • The early animated version has a crowd cheering, an airhorn blow each time a letter appears, a whistle blow, and sounds of the ball in the first half. After the miss, the crowd starts to boo and a "fail" trumpet note plays. Dean Stobbart then says "4-4-2oons!"
  • Sometimes, the opening theme plays over the sounds.

Availability: Common. Seen in the opening of most 442oons videos produced between August 2013 and January 2017. The last video to use an opening logo was Sterling Fouled? Foul or No Foul? After January 2017, the channel's videos contain no opening logos at all.
